Yesterday was my twentieth birthday. I don’t feel older than I did when I was nineteen, but I feel as though when I say I’m twenty it sounds so different. This is the first time in seven years that my age doesn’t have “teen” at the end of it. I can finally say I am an adult without feeling weird about it (although I still do). It’s different. But I love it.
This is my list of twenty things that I want to do while I am twenty. I hope I can do everything on this bucket list before I turn twenty-one!
By the way, this is a list of things that you can do at any age, I just decided that I want to do these while I am twenty to make for a memorable year.
1. Take a road trip with my friends.
My friends and I have started thinking about what we want to do this summer and taking a road trip was the first thing that we thought of. We have always wanted to take a road trip since we were young, but we never could because none of us drove. Now that four of us will have our licenses by the summer, we can definitely take that long awaited road trip we have been wanting to do forever! Now all we have to do is have enough money to do it and decide on a place to go!
2. Write a letter to myself and open it in 10 years.
I have always wanted to write a letter to my future self but I just never got around to it. I am writing one to my thirty-year-old self while I’m twenty. I don’t know what I will write yet, but when I finally do write it, I will share it in an upcoming blog post!
3. Update my wardrobe.
I think it’s time for me to finally graduate from wearing bows in my hair. I actually have already started to to do this. I went to the thrift store recently and started getting some “new to me” clothes for this spring semester. Check out what I purchased in this
post.
4. Have a best friends photo shoot.
I had a photo shoot with my friends this past summer before we all went to college and one of my friends moved away, but I totally want to do another one before we all get too old! Here are a few photos we took this summer.
5. Start a journal for my future husband.
I always wanted to do this, too, but I always thought it was too soon because I was still a teenager. Now I feel old enough to do it without feeling too young. I know that the guy I am going to marry is going to have the same sense of humor as I do, so I am going to fill the journal with things that I think are funny. I’m going to tell him how to handle me in tough situations or just in every day life. I’ll tell him what I have been reading in my devotions or I’ll write a verse that spoke to my heart throughout the week. Once I am finally engaged to the man I will marry, I will start to write some of my favorite memories of our years together while we dated and during our engagement. I will continue writing in the journal up until our wedding day and give it to him on our honeymoon. I’m so excited for this one!
6. Update my resume.
I feel like people automatically take people more seriously when they are twenty than when they are nineteen. I had no problem getting a job when I was eighteen, but I want to keep all of my options open by having an awesome resume.
7. Keep up with my blog.
I think I am going to have my blog for a long time, but I just want to make it a point to keep writing in it for as long as possible. If you don’t have a blog, start one today. I absolutely love blogging and I know that if you like writing then you will, too.
8. Be ambitious.
I think I am already pretty ambitious when it comes to to doing things I want to try, but I want to stop being afraid of failure and just do it! I have so many little things I want to do like write a song, record a song and post it on You Tube, write for a Christian magazine, publish an e-book, learn to play the guitar, and so many other things. I just need to do them instead of thinking about all the pros and cons.
9. Redecorate my room.
I think it’s time for me to update my pink floral bedspread and stuffed animals to something more sophisticated. I am going to be spending plenty of time on Pinterest looking for bedroom decor ideas.
10. Update my hair style.
I really want to dye my hair red and I think I might do it. I need a little bit of a change. I think if I chicken out and I don’t dye my hair, I might just cut it short. I think I might go for a cute long bob cut or a short fox tail (the V) haircut.
11. Set goals for the future.
I am definitely the girl who makes lists for everything and plans way too far in advance. I think setting some goals for the upcoming year and for the future is a good thing to do for anyone of any age. It helps keep your life from day to day in perspective.
12. Write a devotional for teen girls.
I have always wanted to write a devotional for teen girls, but I never got around to it. Now that I am officially out of my teen years, I feel like I can give more advice and more insight to navigating the teen years.
13. Try a new food.
I’m a vegetarian this year so I’m not sure what new food I can try. I might try star fruit or something like that. I never like to try new foods but I am going to take a “step of faith” and try something new and unique.
14. Complete thirty random acts of kindness.
When I was in high school I did an activity with some teens in my youth group and we got to complete 15 random acts of kindness. I loved it. I especially loved that we did most of them anonymously because it showed me that I don’t have to be thanked or appreciated directly for me to make a difference in someone else’s life.
15. Start a health routine.
I have already started this a little bit by becoming a vegetarian this year and starting to eat healthier food. I also want to start doing yoga again. I did it for a little while when I was in high school and I don’t remember why I stopped.
16. Stop a bad habit.
I have so many bad habits like staying up too late doing nothing important or procrastinating on projects or checking my social media accounts as soon as I wake up. I want to try to eliminate a bad habit completely while I am twenty.
17. Volunteer more.
There are so many opportunities for me to volunteer at school and at my home church that I should already be doing it. I’m going to volunteer to work with the teens at my home church this summer and at school I am going to do child care for special events more often rather than take naps.
18. Take pictures of EVERYTHING!
I already love taking pictures but I want to take pictures more often, even on the ordinary days. You never know when an ordinary day can turn into a spectacular memory.
19. Read a good book.
I love reading anything – fiction, non-fiction, magazines, blogs, anything. I think I am going to read an informational book while I’m 20. Maybe something that will help me become a better person or a book that will prepare me for life in the future.
20. Show my loved ones that I love them.
I feel as though I do this enough already, but it wouldn’t hurt to send my family letters when I’m at school and send my friends care packages when they are at school. I know I tell them I love them enough, but I want to show them how much I love them more often. You never know how much time you have with the people you love!
I’m really excited to finally be twenty. I want my twenties to be the best years of my life so I am determined to make the best of the time I have.
Anyone else twenty? What do you want to do before you’re twenty-one?
