I love hanging out with my friends, but some days I just want to chill at home. I don’t want to have to worry about dressing up, wearing make up, or entertaining anyone (although I do that anyway). Especially when it’s freezing outside or it’s snowing, I don’t want to do anything except lie around all day and do nothing.
So, here is a list of my lazy day essentials. Unless you like to accomplish things on these sort of days, then your list probably looks pretty similar to mine.
Everyone needs a lazy day once in a while. Here are a few things that I love to have on hand when I just need to chill at home.
1. Cozy sweat pants, yoga pants, or leggings
I like to be cozy and comfortable when I’m just chilling out at home so I have to wear a pair of sweats. Most of my yoga pants and sweat pants are black so they pretty much match everything.
2. Fuzzy socks
I LOVE fuzzy socks, especially when it’s freezing. My grandparents get me a new pair every Christmas so my collection of cozy socks is growing!
3. Over sized sweater
I always wear huge cozy cable knit sweaters so I have plenty of them lying around. My favorite one is a hunter green cable knit cardigan with huge gold buttons that I found at a thrift store. When I’m not wearing that sweater, I represent my school by wearing my college sweatshirt.
4. Messy bun or French braid
No, I don’t really care how my hair looks when I am just sitting at home so I usually throw it up in a messy bun that always looks better than the ones that I do when I want it to look good. Don’t you hate when your hair looks awesome when you’re not even trying and no one is going to see it? I also have a few stretchy head bands that I have from playing sports that I use to keep my bangs back.
5. Tea or hot chocolate
I drink tea ALL THE TIME so I never run out of it. Recently I have been loving Tazo Passion Tea and Bigelow Vanilla Chai. When it’s snowing outside, I like to sit by the window, watch the snow fall, and sip hot cocoa. I know it’s so cliche, but I love it any way. I love Starbucks’s Salted Caramel hot cocoa with marshmallows, of course. And I can’t forget my favorite little owl mug!
6. Junk food
No, I’m not ashamed of eating a little unhealthy on a lazy day, because I’m already being lazy. Some of my favorite not healthy foods are Ramen noodles, mozzarella sticks and marinara sauce, Oreos, White Cheddar Cheez Its, Honey Mustard and Onion Pretzels, Spicy Sweet Chili Doritos, Red Velvet Pop Tarts, Swedish Fish, and plain bagels with strawberry cream cheese. I could go on, but I’m starting to make myself hungry.
7. Bath and Body Works body cream
My skin gets super dry in the winter so I need something a little more powerful than just regular lotion. Bath and Body Works has the best moisturizing body cream. My new favorites are Pink Jasmine Kiss & Blackberry (It just smells like happiness and angels.) and Cashmere Glow.
8. Chap Stick
To go along with my dry skin, my lips get really dry in the winter, too. My favorite chap stick EVER is Carmex Chap Stick. I don’t like the gel in a tube, but I love the stuff on a stick!
I can also waste a lot more time on Netflix. Needless to say, this happens far too often, but I enjoy it. Some of my favorite shows to watch are Doctor Who, Once Upon a Time, Sherlock, Merlin, Agents of SHIELD, My Fair Wedding, and Say Yes to the Dress.
11. Chick Flicks
I love watching romantic chick flicks when I am just sitting around the house all day. Some of my favorite chick flicks are Pride and Prejudice (2005), Safe Haven, A Walk to Remember, and any Hallmark movie. Oh, and a box of tissues is included any time I watch any movie.
12. Classic Disney Movies
Very rarely do I find a Disney movie that I can’t stand but some of my favorites are Beauty and the Beast, Tangled, Mulan I and II, The Lion King, Cinderella, and The Little Mermaid.
13. Pandora or Spotify
I actually just started using Spotify and I like it more than Pandora. I just like relaxing to music all day. If I don’t feel like singing along with the music (which rarely happens) I love to listen to Lindsey Stirling, The Piano Guys, and the Dallas String Quartet.
If you have been reading my blog for any length of time, you probably know that I am obsessed with Pinterest. I could pin things all day long if I had the chance.
15. Fleece blanket
I love using my huge fleece blanket and just cuddling with it all day.
16. A romance novel
Yes, my guilty pleasure is reading Christian romance novels. My dad may make fun of me for it, but I don’t really care. What can I say? I’m a hopeless romantic.
17. A journal
I love just writing and doodling all day long. I have so many journals that I fill with short stories, ideas for books, poems (that aren’t very good at all), random thoughts, blog post ideas, and song lyrics.
18. My laptop
When I actually want to be constructive on those days I stay in all day, I usually try to work on some up coming blog posts so I need my laptop.
19. Another snack
Shhhh…don’t judge me. I eat when I’m bored.
20. My phone
Even on those days when I don’t want to leave my house or deal with people, I still need my best friends so I just text them. I text my best friend and tell her how lazy I was all day and we don’t even make any plans even though we live 5 minutes away from each other. Then I text my other girl friends and talk about all the food I ate that day and how much we need to all go on diets. And then I text my boyfriend about nonsense all day because that’s what we do best. I mean, what else are friends for?
Everyone needs a lazy day once in a while.
